Obituary for Janet M. "Jan" Stacey

Janet Marilyn Milloway Stacey of Hygiene, CO passed away following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s on Tuesday December 11, 2018. She was surrounded by loved ones and the caring staff at Alta Vita Memory Care Center.
Jan was born in Larned, Kanasas on January 28th, 1936 to Clayton and Helen Milloway. She graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma where she met the love of her life and husband of 60 years, Norman Russell Stacey. They began their lives together in Oklahoma City, where Jan taught the third grade while supporting her husband through medical school. It was there that she also became a devoted mother of two sons, Brett and Thayne. The young family then relocated to Larson Air Force base in Moses Lake, Washington where they welcomed a baby girl, Stephanie Janae.
In 1967 the family settled in Longmont, Colorado where Jan had visited as a child with her parents and sister. It was her declaration that Longmont would be a good place to raise a family that inspired them to build a rich and fulfilling life together that included many days of sunshine at their cabin in Big Elk Meadows, hiking, traveling, skiing, gardening, and numerous and varied pets. Jan was very active in the community through service groups and clubs. The lights of Jan’s life were her children and grandchildren. Her great love of children extended to the Tennyson Center for Children in Denver.
Jan co-founded Health Treks in 1988, a service organization which, over the course of several years, provided health clinics and education to people who lived in remote areas of Nepal. It was during that time Russ and Jan met their Nepali son, Ripendra.
Jan is survived by her husband Russ; children Brett Stacey, Thayne (Cathy) Stacey, and Janae (Joe) Wach, and Ripendra (Sakun) Karki; sisters Harriet (Jack) Kracklauer and Carol Elder; grandchildren Annette (Marcus) Worthman, Roxanne Stacey, Kelan and Jada Anzures, Liam and Luca Stacey, Rehanna and Sarin Karki; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial service 10:30 AM Saturday December 15, 2018 at the United Church of Christ Longmont. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Tennyson Center for Children in Denver. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.
