Obituary for Elaine Mae Royer

We will all miss Elaine Tilda Mae Freed Royer. She was a very kind, loving, and generous woman. She was born May 1st,1921 in Page County Iowa to Caleb and Minnie Johnson Freed. She grew up on a farm near Clarinda, Iowa which she cherished all her life. Elaine was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She was a graduate of Essex High School.

After high school graduation she worked for the government at Page County AAA Farm Office in Clarinda, Iowa.

On October 12, 1947 she was united in marriage to Wayne Royer at Bethesda Lutheran Church and they lived in Essex, Iowa for several years. They were blessed with two children, a daughter Karen and a son Dennis. When her children were young, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also an active member of the Study and Service Club.

In 1961 they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where she lived for 27 years. Elaine worked at Back to the Bible Broadcast and at a newspaper office. She was also a member of Saint Andrews Lutheran Church where she was active in numerous service organizations. She made many dear friends during her time in Lincoln.

In 1988 they moved to Longmont, Colorado where they joined First Lutheran Church. Elaine was a beloved member and belonged to Rachel Circle, Patches and Projects, and Service for Families.

In later years, she was an active participant in her grandchildren and Great grandchildren's lives. She was often found helping them with many cooking and craft projects. She enriched her family and friends lives with her smile, sense of humor and love for Jesus.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Caleb and Minnie Freed, her husband Wayne, sister and brother in-law Lorine and Ben Nelson, her brother Leslie Freed, and brother and sister in-law Harry and Martha Royer.

Survivors include her daughter Karen and husband Dennis Meenen, son Dennis and wife Judy Royer, Kimberly and husband Jason Hart, Andrew Meenen, Megan Royer, and William and wife Becky Royer, five great grandchildren Tyler, Senessa, Aiden, Jessie, and Olivia, and sister in-law Connie Freed, several nieces and nephews and other dear family and friends.
