Obituary for Johnny LaVern Colmus

Johnny L. Colmus, 82, of Longmont passed away November 29, 2018 at his home.

He was born April 1, 1936 in Farwell, Michigan to Leo and Ila (Hall) Colmus. Johnny grew up on the family farm and graduated from Clare High School, Clare, MI at the age of 16.

On June 15, 1981 he married Carol Root in Las Vegas.

A talented musician, Johnny began his long career immediately after high school and continued to age 80. He could play six instruments, sing and was a song writer. He traveled and played all over the United States with several different bands. Johnny had played at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and for 30 years in Las Vegas, where he and Carol made their home. They moved to Longmont in 2011.

Johnny was also a jack of all trades, a talented craftsman, construction worker and general handyman. Often using these skills to provide income between gigs.

He loved music and fixing things. Johnny was devoted to Carol and her son and daughter.

Johnny is survived by wife Carol, step-son Morgan Root (Elisabeth) and step-daughter Erin Padma Kluck (Christopher) and three grandchildren Rhiannon Root, Liam Root and Kaspar Kluck.

A service to celebrate Johnny’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Share condolences at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com.
