Obituary for Leroy Ioas Troxel

Print
Leroy I. Troxel
(Lief Davidson)

Leroy Troxel was born on September 26th 1976, the youngest of Duane and Stephanie Troxel’s three children. He has an older sister, Cori Redford, and an older brother, Bill Troxel. He was a sweet and outgoing child, one who always wanted to please.

He was very entrepreneurial from a young age, starting as an on-the-air personality at 3-years-old on a top-40 radio station in Honolulu, Hawaii. Later, he had a paper route at ten, and then sweeper of a video shop in exchange for tokens to play the games. When he was sixteen he was assistant manager of a card and record shop and was able to increase the number of people coming in with his sense of justice and ability to teach the games to his customers.

This also set him up for being a gamer, and that he was. A table in the basement always was stacked with Magic cards which he sold, by deck or by card, over the internet. In his early teens he was pulled into a new game called Amptgard. He was fast, and for a while little enough that he could easily escape when trapped. But as he grew into his 6’4” body he remained fast and became powerful. His understanding of strategy that he learned while playing cards, became the basis for strategies in his physical gaming as well. He started a boot camp for new Amptgardians, teaching them sword play and other techniques of movement. Here was his first chance to live up to his name “Leroy,” the King, and he did. More than once. Most recently it was with SCA.

When Leroy moved into the Society for Creative Anachronisms, they told him he needed to fight with a shield. He built a shield. He found that he could fight better without a shield, especially if he had a second weapon in his other hand. Amptgard had made him fast and precise with his weapons, and now SCA with the armor built his strength and his stamina.

When he found out the Mohegan Tribe, of which he was a member, would pay all expenses for his schooling, he went to school. He declared three majors, but after four years his patience ran out, he counted his credits and graduated with a BA in psychology. On the side, he did a lot of tech work, and in the process got a lot of technical experience with computers. From there his next challenge was marriage, babies and an MBA at the University of Denver. He did them all, but wasn’t successful with all. The first marriage with Melanie brought two babies, Aidan (now 13) and Helena (now 12). Yay! As for the marriage, it didn’t last. He tried again with Julie, and even though both of his chosen partners were lovely women who were both smart and beautiful and talented, something didn’t click and second divorce arrived.

He started working at Sea Gate many years ago. He loved his job, and it loved him back. He was a cost analyst of this giant computer manufacturing company. When he died, he was doing well at Sea Gate, he sold his house, he paid off all his debt and was happy with his new life and love, Heather. He was excited about a new enterprise that he was planning to complement his work at Sea Gate. His death was tragic, but then he couldn’t have died at a better time. The heart that his cardiologist told him was in great shape, stopped beating. An aneurysm exploded and stopped it.
