Dorothy L. Shearer, 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Longmont CO on July 7th, 2018. She was born in New Concord OH on February 13, 1923 to the late James Earl and Ethel (Watson) Johnson. Dorothy graduated from Muskingum College in 1945. She began her teaching career in Zanesville OH. Dorothy married Duane C. Shearer in 1953 and moved to Tallmadge OH, where she taught elementary school for more than 30 years. After retiring, she and Duane moved to North Port FL. They moved to Longmont CO in 2009.

Dorothy had a long and happy life. She loved her family, she loved teaching and she loved her students. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church. Much of her time was spent basking in the sun. Walking was always a favorite pastime. She enjoyed talking to everyone and sharing her beautiful smile.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Duane, daughters Elaine Schmidt of CO and Nancy (Richard) Holden of CA, daughter-in-law Nancy Baker Shearer of FL, her grandchildren Joshua Shearer, Jeremiah Shearer, Erika Schmidt and Maggie Schmidt; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son William (Bill) D. Shearer, her sister Geraldine M. Wilson, and her brother, Robert M. Johnson.

The family would like to thank Carol Kelly and her aides, Shirley Kaffrey and her Legacy Healthcare staff, and the caring professionals of Halcyon Hospice. We are grateful for the many friends and neighbors who provided countless acts of kindness.
