Obituary for Virginia Belle Krieg
Virginia Krieg, 92, passed away March 16, 2018 at her home in Longmont in the presence of her daughter Kris Mendenhall.
She was born at home to her parents Lloyd and Maybelle. She learned to roller skate at the oval at CSU when she was just a child.
Virginia graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1943 and from Colorado State University (then known as Colorado A&M) in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Studies. It was at Colorado A&M where she met and married her husband Gordon Krieg. They were married more than 63 years before Gordon preceded her in death in August of 2012.
Virginia and Gordon set up housekeeping in a converted chicken house on Mulberry Street. She taught eighth grade English in both the Poudre and Torrington, Wyoming school systems.
Virginia later worked in the medical offices of Kent Banta, DDS and John Hinman M.D. in Longmont after raising her children.
Virginia was of the Presbyterian faith. She was active as a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader. She volunteered as a “room Mother” on school activities and field trips. She spent many hours shuttling her children to music lessons.
Virginia enjoyed: cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, landscaping and painting houses inside and out. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the holidays.
She is survived by her daughter Kris Mendenhall and son Jeffrey (Ann) Krieg of Longmont, granddaughter Elizabeth (Thomas) Ward of Thornton, CO, her faithful family friend Christine Borgmann of Longmont; her dog Simba and two cats Sundance and Storm-chaser.
A private family memorial service will be held, Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins, CO. Virginia and her husband Gordon will be interred together. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to: Halcyon Hospice, P.O. Box 177, Mead, CO 80542.
