Obituary for Richard M. Bradley

Richard M. Bradley
Richard Maxwell Bradley was born November 7, 1940, the second of three sons to Marlin Henry Bradley and Winnie Lou (Harbin) Bradley in Oneonta, AL. Relocating to Hapeville, GA, just south of Atlanta, in 1954, Richard excelled in athletics earning varsity letters in four sports his sophomore year of high school and receiving the Atlanta Journal Constitution Cup honoring outstanding high school seniors. Richard met the love of his life, Mary Pegues Irby, in 9th grade and they married in 1960.

After high school, Richard pursued interests in service and sports. He joined the US Army and served as a chaplain’s assistant at Fort Benning, Columbus, GA, for three years. Later, Richard played football at Jacksonville State University (AL). Richard graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University in 1971 determined to pursue a career in sales and marketing.

Richard and Mary lived south of Atlanta most of their lives, had two children, and many adored pets. Richard’s love for animals was inspiring to all and led to his last career choice, a dog groomer in Fayetteville, GA, for 11 years. Richard’s other love, WWII History and Aircraft, led him to visit England and France on several occasions, touring historical sites with a love for learning about the sacrifices and strategies of US troops.

Richard and Mary retired to Longmont, CO, in 2003 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They volunteered with Boulder County Democrats, Longmont Meals on Wheels and Community Food Share. Richard is survived by Mary, his wife of 57 years, his children, Richard Maxwell (Max) Bradley jr, and Annette Bradley Mainland, and his grandchildren, Austin James Bradley, Samantha Mary Bradley, Cameron Christopher Mainland, and Julia Ruth Mainland, all of Boulder, CO.

Richard will be dearly missed and remembered for the friends made in unlikely places, as he extended kindness and compassion wherever he went. He readily expressed gratitude and worked tirelessly to be a better person, husband and father.

Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard’s memory to Longmont Humane Society at 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont, CO 80501 or TRU Hospice at 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO 80026, are requested. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.
