Obituary for Marvin W. Peters

Marvin W.  Peters
WWII veteran Marvin W. Peters passed away November 10, 2017 at his home in Longmont. He was 94 years old.
In the spring and summer of 1944, Marvin served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aerial gunner on B-17 Aircraft with the 8th Air Force in the European Theater of Operations. He successfully completed flying on 35 missions. Among his missions were two flown on D-Day in support of invasion forces on the ground, as well as three low altitude flights dropping supplies to French underground resistance fighters. Among his decorations were the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal and the Air Medal with 8 Oak Leaf Clusters.
On November 22, 1945 he married Ruth Tuerk in his hometown of Cresco, IA. Together they moved to Longmont, CO in 1946. Marvin worked for the Public Service Company for 39 years before retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 32. Marvin enjoyed woodworking and fishing and he was a volunteer with the Longmont Police Dept., the OUR Center, and the Longmont Public Library.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara Peters, his sister, LaVerne Schultze, and wife Ruth Peters.
Marvin was much beloved and is survived by his brother; Don Peters, and his four children; Linda Schupbach, Robert Peters, Nancy Berryhill, and Mary Tague, along with eight grandchildren; Kerri Peters, Craig Peters, Mary Ruth Schupbach, Sarah Schupbach, Amy Tague, April (Tague) Demmer, Daniel Tague, and Alyssa Tague, and four great grandchildren; William Denning, Savanah Peters, Branson Peters, and Nevaeh Peters.
A visitation will be held from 4 – 6 PM on Thursday Nov. 16, 2017 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday Nov. 17, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory. Memorial contributions can be made to TRU Community Care of Boulder County. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.
