Obituary for Barbara "Bonnie" Sheppard (Barnes)
Barbara (Bonnie) Brooks Sheppard passed away October 14, 2017 at Boulder Community Health. She was 79 years old.
Bonnie was born on November 30, 1937 to William and Barbara (Virginia) Hall. She grew up in Tenafly, NJ and graduated from Tenafly High School in 1955. She went on to graduate from the University of Rochester in 1959 and in 1983 earned an MBA from the University of Colorado.
In 1959 Bonnie married Thomas F. Jordan, they later divorced. She moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1968 and began working for Ball Brothers Research Corporation, which later became Ball Aerospace, where she was employed for 30 years in human resources and financial management before retiring in 1998.
She married Rex Sheppard in 1970. Together they enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing, hiking, backpacking and bicycling. She and Rex travelled extensively all over North and South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Many of these vacations included kayaking, biking and hiking.
Bonnie was a volunteer naturalist with Boulder County Parks and Open Space for over 18 years and led many wildflower hikes in the mountains and on the plains. She was passionate about supporting higher education and conservation of planet Earth, especially the headwaters of the Colorado River. She also was a loyal supporter of the C.U. women’s basketball team, and enjoyed playing Mah Jong with her friends.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband Rex and her parents.
She is survived by her stepchildren Kim Shepton, Mark (Crystal) Sheppard and Glyn (Alan) Masi; her grandchildren Aaron Sheppard and Anastasia Button; and her cousin and best friend Robin Vannote and his wonderful family.
She will be remembered by her family and friends for her boundless energy, sense of humor and love of the great outdoors.
