Obituary for Robert A. Rittenhouse

Robert (Bob) Rittenhouse passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, Colorado after a short illness. He was 84 years old. Bob was born in Wethersfield, Connecticut on January 27, 1933 to Joseph Vernon Rittenhouse and Ella Katherine (Schmidt) Rittenhouse. He graduated from Westwood High School in Westwood, New Jersey in 1951. He served in the U.S Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Bob married the girl of his dreams, Jacqueline (Jackie) Grace Peek, on August 29, 1953 and they made their home in Westwood.
He attended Newark College of Engineering in New Jersey graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as an engineer for Western Electric in Kearney, New Jersey and was transferred to Colorado in 1969 where he continued to work for the company, which became part of AT & T. Bob and Jackie built a home in the foothills outside of Boulder, Colorado. Upon his retirement in 1991, they built a home outside of Berthoud, Colorado on the Little Thomas River and have lived there for the past 26 years.
An avid collector of MG cars, Bob was active in the local MG club, the Rocky Mountain T Register. They participated in numerous rallies over the years and made many friends in the group. He was also a skilled craftsman, working with wood, building all the cabinets in their home, along with many pieces of furniture. He loved tinkering with his cars and many other projects.
In addition to his dear wife of 64 years, Bob is survived by his brothers, Richard Rittenhouse of Sonora, California, and Paul Rittenhouse of Winchester, Virginia, along with many nieces and nephews around the country, as well as a close group of dear friends. He also leaves behind two cats, Joey and Jodie, and their little dog Lilly, whom they recently adopted from the Longmont Humane Society. He was predeceased by both of his parents and his two sisters, Joan Rittenhouse Johnson of Westwood, New Jersey, and Lois Rittenhouse Vierling of Oradell, New Jersey.
We’ve lost a great storyteller who will be missed by all who knew him and loved his sense of humor and his dedication to his family and friends. He requested that there be no services and the family suggests that friends and family make donations in his name to the charity of their choice.
