On July 9, 2017, James A. “Jim” Nielsen, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home after years of battling Alexander’s Disease and Cancer.

Jim was born on November 6, 1946 in Sidney, NE to Rasmus and Marjorie (Saiser) Nielsen. He moved to Boulder, CO with his family in 1959 from Chappell, NE. Jim graduated from Fairview High School in 1965 and from the University of Colorado in 1973 with his Bachelor’s degree.

On August 30, 1968 he married Mary Lou McInroy in Coal Creek Canyon at Chapel in the Hills.

Jim worked several years in marketing and distribution for Kraft Foods, C Lloyd Johnson and Swift Foods. From 1978 – 1988 he and his partner, Bill Foster, ran the Valley Farm Dairy; and then from 1992 – 2000 he and his wife, Mary Lou, co-owned and operated the For Heaven’s Sake Christian Bookstore with Pat and Roger Drotar.

Jim was a member of Calvary Church where he taught 3rd grade Sunday School and was instrumental in organizing the Wednesday night Men’s Bible Study from its inception. Jim will be remembered by many, especially the kids who he interacted with at Calvary and the people he met at For Heaven’s Sake.

Jim enjoyed participating in bowling leagues and doing woodworking. Jim loved his many dogs, especially his companion, Cinnamon. More importantly he loved his family and his Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marje and Ras, and his siblings Patricia, Betty and Robin.

Jim is survived by his wife Mary Lou; his sons James A. Nielsen, Jr. (Angie) of Longmont and Ryan Nielsen (Christianna) of Quincy, CA; and his two granddaughters Magali and Miley Nielsen.

Memorial service will be held 1:30 pm Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Calvary Church. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions can be made to the Denver Rescue Mission, Evergreen Animal Protection League or a charity of choice and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
